Orhan Maskar, a 44-year-old mine sergeant, lost his life in a cave-in at the Zonguldak TTK Karadon Coal Mine at -263 level. The death of Maskar, from Bartın Kozcağız, left the mining community in mourning. An investigation has been launched into the accident.
Zonguldak/Bartın - A catastrophic cave-in that occurred yesterday evening at the coal mine of the Turkish Hard Coal Corporation (TTK) Karadon Enterprise left the mining community in mourning. 44-year-old Mine Sergeant Orhan Maskar died after being trapped under a cave-in in the chimney while working 263 meters underground (at -263 level).
According to preliminary information, the incident took place in the depths of the coal mine operating in Karadon Works in Zonguldak. Orhan Maskar, an experienced mine worker who was on duty as a mining sergeant, was carrying out routine work in a shaft at the -263 meter elevation of the quarry when suddenly the ceiling collapsed and he was trapped under the cave-in.
When the news of the collapse was received, TTK search and rescue teams and colleagues were immediately dispatched to the area. Maskar's lifeless body was reached after intensive efforts of the teams. The death of the unfortunate worker caused great sadness among his colleagues and family gathered around the quarry.
It is learned that Orhan Maskar, who lost his life, was registered in Kozcağız Ellibaş Village of Bartın. The news of the death of Maskar, who was 44 years old, married with children, was delivered to his family and relatives in his hometown by the authorities. It was reported that there was a great sadness in the village and Bartın after the sad news.
TTTK General Directorate and representatives of the relevant unions have announced that they have launched an investigation into the incident and that a detailed technical investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident. While calls have been made to take all necessary measures to prevent such accidents, the vital importance of occupational safety in the mining sector has once again come to the fore with this tragic incident.
Orhan Maskar's body is expected to be buried in his hometown Bartın after the autopsy procedures are completed.
