According to the October 2025 Food Inflation Report of the United Public-Is Confederation, food prices increased by 3.7% in one month and by 39.2% in the first 10 months of the year. The annual increase in the most consumed foods by the public was calculated as 57.1%, drawing attention to the pressure of the cost of living on low-income people.
ANKARA - The United Public-Is Confederation has calculated the real inflation in Turkey has not slowed down and purchasing power continues to erode, based on a basket of basic foodstuffs that people consume the most. According to the report published by the Confederation, food prices rose sharply in October, contrary to official inflation data.
According to the calculation of United Kamu-İş, food prices increased by 3.7 percent in October 2025 compared to the previous month. This rate has put a serious pressure on the budgets of especially narrow and fixed income earners.
Based on the first 10 months of the year (January-October 2025), the total increase in food prices was calculated as 39.2 percent. This high rate shows that the anti-inflation policies have not yet been reflected in the people's kitchens as the year enters its last quarter.
The confederation also reported the increase in food prices for the last one year (October 2024 - October 2025). Accordingly, the increase in the food basket, which the public consumes the most, amounted to 57.1 percent in the last year.
In addition, the average food prices for the last 12 months rose by 57.3 percent compared to the average prices for the previous 12 months. These data support criticism that salary increases, especially for public employees and pensioners, lag far behind the real cost of living.
With this striking report, United Kamu-İş has once again revealed the widening gap between the official inflation figures announced by the government and the real cost of living on the ground and called for urgent measures to protect the purchasing power of low-income groups.
