Birleşik Metal-İş Union organized a rally in Taksim in support of Palestine and demanding an end to trade relations with Israel. The demonstration, which was also supported by DISK, chanted "The working class stands with Palestine!" and emphasized that solidarity will continue.
ISTANBUL/TAKSIM - The United Metalworkers Union organized a mass demonstration in Taksim, Istanbul in solidarity with the Palestinian people on the second anniversary of the genocide. The march, organized with the participation of their confederation DISK's Istanbul Regional Representation and sister unions, loudly demanded the end of all trade relations with Israel.
The march, which started in Taksim on October 5, 2025 and continued to Dolmabahçe, was attended by United Metal-İş General President Özkan Atar, General Organizing Secretary Fehmi Elmacı, as well as executives and hundreds of members of the Gebze No. 1 and No. 2, Istanbul No. 1 and Thrace branches of the union.
The slogans chanted during the march clearly showed the support of the working class for the Palestinian cause:
"The working class stands with Palestine!"
"The Palestinian people are not alone!"
"Trade with Israel is a betrayal of Palestine!"
"The Sumud Flotilla is our honor!"
"Free Palestine from the river to the sea!"
"Get out of the Middle East, murderous Israel/USA!"
The United Metalworkers' Union emphasized that the main purpose of the action was to raise the demand for a complete end to trade relations with the Israeli state. The union argued that the continuation of these trade relations is a betrayal of the struggle of the Palestinian people.
The statement pledged that solidarity and struggle will continue until this genocide ends and the Palestinian people are liberated: "Our solidarity will continue until this genocide ends and the Palestinian people are free!"
This strong call of solidarity of the working class for Palestine also once again demonstrated the sensitivity of the unions under the umbrella of DİSK to global political issues and its anti-imperialist stance.
