A shuttle bus carrying textile workers overturned at 07.30 in the morning at Muratbey Village in Bartın Center. In the accident, 49-year-old textile worker Fatma Demircan from Ulus Kumluca town lost her life and 19 workers were injured. An investigation was initiated into the incident.
BARTIN - A terrible work accident occurred early this morning in Muratbey Village in the central district of Bartın. At around 07.30, 49-year-old Fatma Demircan was killed and 19 workers were injured when a shuttle bus carrying textile workers overturned.
The accident occurred when the midibus carrying workers from Kumluca town of Ulus district to the city center lost control for an undetermined reason and overturned. Upon the notification of other drivers and citizens who saw the accident, many health, fire and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the scene.
Fatma Demircan, a 49-year-old textile worker who was seriously injured in the accident, died on the spot despite all interventions. It was learned that Fatma Demircan was registered in Ulus Kumluca town.
19 workers who were injured in the accident were taken to Bartın State Hospital and other nearby health institutions by ambulances and taken under treatment. While the injured were reported to be in stable health, there were short-term disruptions on the route due to the accident.
The Worker Health and Worker Safety (ISIG) Assembly recorded the incident as an "occupational homicide" and drew attention to the safety and inspection deficiencies in bus transportation. A detailed investigation into the accident has been launched.
