TEKIRDAĞ - In Ergene district of Tekirdağ, 3 workers lost their lives and 9 others were injured in a tragic accident that occurred when a bus carrying workers collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The accident has once again raised concerns about worker health and safety.
According to an announcement made by the Workers' Health and Safety (ISIG) Assembly on social media, the accident occurred in Ergene, Tekirdağ, when a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the workers' bus.
The names of the workers who lost their lives in the accident were announced as follows:
Fevzi Kaya: Labor bus driver.
Feridun Bağlan: Emin Textile worker.
Halil Seven: Emin Textile worker.
9 workers who were injured in the accident were taken to the surrounding hospitals after the first intervention of the paramedics who arrived at the scene. Detailed information on the health conditions of the wounded has not yet been released.
This tragic accident has once again highlighted the seriousness of occupational health and safety issues in Turkey. Ensuring safe transportation of workers to their workplaces is among the main responsibilities of employers and relevant authorities.
The DISIG Assembly has long been drawing attention to "work murders" and precarious working conditions in Turkey. Accidents, especially in labor-intensive sectors such as textiles and transportation services, once again remind us of the risks that threaten the lives of workers.
An investigation into the accident is underway, while the full details of the incident and those responsible are expected to be determined. In order to prevent such accidents, calls for necessary safety precautions to be taken not only at workplaces but also on the routes of workers to and from work have been reiterated.
