Kaan Mert Sağlam, a 20-year-old motor courier in Karabağlar, Izmir, was killed in a collision with a taxi while returning from work at around 03.30 at night.
İZMİR - Kaan Mert Sağlam, a 20-year-old motorcycle courier, died in a traffic accident in the Karabağlar district of İzmir on his way home from work. At around 3:30 a.m., the young courier, who was traveling on his motorcycle, was seriously injured in a collision with a taxi and could not be saved despite all interventions.
The tragic incident, which was announced by the Worker Health and Work Safety (ISIG) Assembly on social media, once again brought the risky working conditions of moto couriers and the dangers of night shifts to the agenda.
According to the information received, the accident took place in Karabağlar district of Izmir, known for its heavy traffic. Kaan Mert Sağlam was traveling home on his motorcycle after his night shift at his workplace when he collided with a taxi. The young courier, who was thrown to the road with the violence of the accident, was seriously injured at the scene.
Rapidly reaching the scene of the accident, health and police teams made the first intervention to Kaan Mert Sağlam. However, despite all efforts, the 20-year-old young courier lost his life.
The death of Kaan Mert Sağlam has added a new link to the increasing number of deaths of moto couriers in recent years, mostly as a result of traffic accidents. Flexible working hours, speed pressure, long shifts and inadequate occupational safety measures put moto couriers in constant danger, especially in this sector where the young population works intensively.
The DISIG Assembly emphasized that this tragedy should be treated as a work accident and that the working conditions of moto couriers should be urgently improved. Police teams started a detailed investigation into the incident.
