Workers Özcan Yıldırım and Ahmet İzmirli died in a fire that broke out in the shipping department of the Teksüt factory in Gönen district of Balıkesir. The fire was brought under control with the intensive intervention of fire brigades.
BALIKESİR - A fire broke out in the factory of Teksüt, one of Turkey's leading dairy producers, in Hasanbey neighborhood of Balıkesir's Gönen district, killing two workers. The fire, which started in the shipment section of the factory, grew in a short time and was difficult to bring under control, while employees Özcan Yıldırım and Ahmet İzmirli died in the incident.
Scale Response to Fire
After a report that a fire broke out in the shipping section of the Teksüt factory in Hasanbey Neighborhood for an undetermined reason, 112 Emergency Health, police and Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality fire brigades were immediately dispatched to the area. Due to the size of the fire and the presence of flammable materials in the factory, fire brigades requested reinforcements from Gönen and neighboring districts. A large number of personnel intervened in the fire with 13 vehicles and 2 land rovers belonging to Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality fire brigade, as well as 8 vehicles belonging to other institutions. As a result of the intense efforts of the teams, the fire was brought under control and extinguished before it spread to more areas.
Two Workers Die Under Rubble
After the completion of the fire extinguishing works, search and rescue operations were initiated inside the factory. Teams reached the lifeless bodies of factory workers Özcan Yıldırım and Ahmet İzmirli in the delivery section, which was most affected by the fire. It was determined that two workers who were apparently trapped inside during the fire lost their lives. This painful news caused deep sorrow to Teksüt employees and the entire Gönen community.
The lifeless bodies of Ozcan Yıldırım and Ahmet İzmirli were sent to the Bursa Group Presidency of the Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy after the crime scene investigation. While a large-scale investigation has been launched into the incident, the cause of the fire and the adequacy of occupational safety measures are being investigated. This incident once again painfully reminded us of the importance of occupational safety and the precautions to be taken against fire risks in factories.
