2 workers lost their lives in a cave-in that occurred during the excavation of a pool in Sıdan Plateau in Akhisar, Manisa. AFAD and gendarmerie teams started an investigation at the scene.
A cave-in during the excavation of a pool for water storage on Sıdan Plateau in İsaca neighborhood of Akhisar district of Manisa claimed the lives of two workers. The incident took place at noon on September 18, 2025.
According to the information obtained, a sudden landslide occurred during excavation works in the plateau. Medical teams, gendarmerie and AFAD were dispatched to the region to reach the two workers trapped under the cave-in. After hours of intensive work of the teams, the lifeless bodies of the workers were reached.
While there was a great sadness in the region after the accident, the residents of the neighborhood could not get over the shock of the incident for a long time. Gendarmerie teams launched a large-scale investigation into the incident. According to preliminary investigations, there were claims that adequate security measures were not taken in the area where the excavation was carried out.
Authorities emphasized that stricter inspections should be carried out in infrastructure works in the highlands to prevent similar incidents from happening again. Occupational safety experts pointed out that soil analysis and engineering controls are vital in such excavation areas.
While the identities of the workers who lost their lives have not yet been announced, the bodies were sent to Manisa Forensic Medicine Institution for autopsy procedures.
