In Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş, 30-year-old construction equipment operator Önder Pınarcı lost his life in a cave-in during the controlled demolition of a damaged 15-storey building. Rescue teams worked intensively at the scene.
KAHRAMANMARAŞ - In Kahramanmaraş, one of the cities most affected by the February 6 earthquakes, a heartbreaking occupational homicide occurred during the demolition of damaged buildings. A cave-in during the controlled demolition of a damaged 15-storey building in Üngüt neighborhood of Onikişubat district of Onikişubat district took the life of 30-year-old construction equipment operator Önder Pınarcı. The young operator died tragically under the rubble.
Survival Moment and Rapid Response
The incident occurred at the demolition site in Üngüt neighborhood during the demolition work carried out with great care by construction equipment operator Önder Pınarcı. As a result of the unexpected collapse of a part of the damaged building, the construction equipment used by Pınarcı was trapped under the debris. Immediately after the incident, other employees realized the situation and called for help in a great panic.
A large number of AFAD, fire brigade, police and medical teams were quickly dispatched to the area upon the notification of the bystanders. Due to the seriousness of the incident, the teams immediately launched a large-scale rescue operation. Teams determined the point where the work machine was under the cave-in and tried to reach Pınarcı by racing against time.
Hopes Extinguished Under Rubble
After intensive and meticulous efforts, the construction equipment operator Önder Pınarcı was reached. However, the first examination by paramedics revealed that the young operator unfortunately lost his life. The sad news of Pınarcı, a 30-year-old worker in the prime of his life, plunged his family and colleagues into deep mourning.
This tragic incident has once again demonstrated how risky the demolition and debris removal works in Kahramanmaraş are in the aftermath of the earthquake. While the authorities launched a detailed investigation into the incident, calls were made to review work safety measures and take necessary measures to prevent similar accidents. Önder Pınarcı's lifeless body was taken to the hospital morgue after investigations at the scene.
