An explosion occurred at TPIC Üçtepe-1 drilling well on Diyarbakır-Batman highway due to sudden gas discharge, injuring 7 workers, 4 of whom are union members. Petrol-Is Union is closely following the developments.
Diyarbakır/Batman - A major explosion occurred this morning at the Üçtepe-1 drilling well of Turkish Petroleum International Company (TPIC) operating on the Diyarbakır-Batman highway. According to Petrol-İş Union, a total of 7 employees, including 4 union members, were injured in the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by a sudden gas discharge. This tragic incident once again brought the importance of occupational safety in the energy sector to the agenda.
Teams arrived at the scene immediately after the explosion and administered first aid to the injured workers. The injured workers were then rushed to hospitals in Batman and Diyarbakır for treatment. The fire that broke out in the facility after the explosion was brought under control after intensive efforts of the fire brigade and security teams. Cooling and security work continues at the scene.
After the explosion was announced, Petrol-İş Union quickly mobilized. Batman Branch Executives of the union went to the scene of the explosion and gathered detailed information about the causes of the explosion and started to closely follow the process regarding the condition of the injured. Union officials stated that all necessary steps will be taken for the health and safety of its members and all employees.
"We wish a speedy recovery to our injured colleagues and wish all our members a speedy recovery," Petrol-Is Union said in an official statement. The union demands detailed investigations into the causes of the explosion and that all necessary measures be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening again. An official investigation into the incident is also expected to be launched.
