New Regulations in the Field of Education

The regulatory changes published in the Official Gazette contain provisions that will directly impact the academic lives of university students. Istanbul Kent University's Faculty of Dentistry has set the conditions for transitioning to the clinical education period. According to the new regulation, students must successfully complete mandatory pre-clinical vocational and Basic Sciences courses and have a GPA of at least 2.00 to advance from the 2nd to the 3rd year. This decision marks a crucial milestone for dental students on their path to graduation.

Another regulatory change came from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University. According to the amendments to its Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulation, semester evaluations will account for 40% of the final course grade, while end-of-semester evaluations will account for 60%. The regulation also stipulates that a student must have a passing grade of at least 60 and score at least 50 on the end-of-semester or make-up exam to pass a course. Additionally, students who do not take exams will receive a 'GR' (Did Not Attend) grade, and faculty members are required to submit attendance records to their respective departments at the end of each semester.

Ministry of Trade Takes Action with an Investigation

Another notable communiqué in the Official Gazette was the initiation of an investigation by the Ministry of Trade against the circumvention of anti-dumping measures on the import of "coagulated artificial leather." The communiqué states that a review has been initiated regarding the circumvention of anti-dumping measures on products originating from/dispatched from the United Arab Emirates, Italy, and Egypt.

According to the analysis, significant changes occurred in the import of "coagulated artificial leather" between 2022 and 2024. Italy's share of imports rose from 17% in 2022 to 22% in 2024. Imports from Egypt increased their share from 0.4% in 2022 to 5% in 2024. The significant decrease in the unit price of imports from Egypt, which fell by 42% to 2.5 USD/kg in 2023, was particularly noteworthy. The investigation found that the average unit prices of products from Italy and Egypt fell below the average unit price of total imports. The investigation will be conducted by the General Directorate of Imports, with a 37-day deadline for responding to the investigation questionnaires.
