Strong Support for Public Workers from UNITED METAL-IS: "Workers and Civil Servants Hand in Hand, General Strike!"

ISTANBUL - The struggle of public laborers against the government's "misery raise" offer at the collective bargaining table is growing with the strong solidarity of labor unions. The United Metalworkers Union of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) participated in a press statement at Kadıköy Dock Square in Istanbul in support of public workers who have stopped work across Turkey. Metal workers stood shoulder to shoulder with public laborers, sending a message of common struggle and class solidarity.

Salute of Class Solidarity from Metal Workers to Public Workers

"As metalworkers, we salute the honorable struggle of public workers who have stopped work all over the country with the slogan 'We demand the pay for our labor, not a misery raise!"," the social media account of our union said. This message demonstrated the determination of workers from different industries to unite around common economic demands and rights struggles.

On behalf of Birleşik Metal-İş Union, General Secretary Ali Çeltek, General Organizing Secretary Fehmi Elmacı, as well as many branch managers, workplace representatives, members and experts participated in the press statement. Metal workers chanted "Public laborers are not alone!", "We will win by uniting!" and "Worker-employee hand in hand, general strike!" and called for expanding the scope of the struggle.

Joint Reaction Against Misery at the CBA Table

While public workers reacted to the government's low raise rates for 2026 and 2027, the support of Birleşik Metal-İş emphasized that this reaction is not just a problem for civil servants, but concerns all working segments. The metal workers pointed out that the difficult economic conditions in their sector and the problems faced by public workers are common, and that the only way against such "misery offers" is the united struggle of workers and civil servants.

The solidarity action once again demonstrated the potential of the social opposition and the trade union movement to act together against the common problems created by the economic crisis and the cost of living.
