Strike Decision by Türk Deniz-İş Union: Dispute Breaks Out at TTK Port and Railway Operation Directorate

Ankara - Türk Deniz-İş Union has taken an important step and decided to strike after the collective bargaining negotiations at the Turkish Hard Coal Corporation (TTK) General Directorate Port and Railway Operation Directorate Marine Works Chief Engineer's Office ended in disagreement. In line with this decision taken by the union's Executive Board on July 29, the strike will start on August 7, 2025.

The Background of the Strike Decision: Unresolved CBA Negotiations

The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) negotiations between the Turkish Deniz-İş Union and the Chief Engineer of Marine Works at the TTK General Directorate Port and Railway Management Directorate have been ongoing for some time. However, no compromise could be reached between the demands of the union and workers and the proposals of the employer side. After the negotiations deadlocked and the parties failed to find a common ground, the Executive Board of Türk Deniz-İş Union decided to go on strike to protect the rights and interests of its members.

This decision represents an important stage in the union's struggle and shows that workers are determined in their quest for rights. Union officials stated that they will continue to take all necessary steps to sign the collective bargaining agreement as soon as possible and to ensure that workers have decent living conditions.

Strike Enforcement to Begin on August 7

The strike decision was officially announced by the union management on July 29, 2025. The actual start date of the strike was set as August 7, 2025. As of this date, workers who are members of the Türk Deniz-İş Union working at the TTK Port and Railway Directorate's Marine Works Chief Engineer will exercise their right to strike by stopping work.

Possible disruptions in port and railway operations during the strike will be an issue that the public and related sectors will carefully monitor. The union emphasized that the aim of the strike was to put pressure on the employer to reach an agreement at the table.

Public Announcement and Call for Support to Workers from Turkish Deniz-İş

Turkish Deniz-İş Union made an announcement to the public with the strike decision. The union stated that this struggle, which was initiated to meet the just demands of the workers, is a common problem of all laborers and that they expect the support of the public. The announcement emphasized the importance of trade union rights and freedom of collective bargaining and stated that strikes are a legal right and workers will not hesitate to exercise this constitutionally guaranteed right.

This development once again shows how sensitive the collective bargaining process is in Turkish labor-management relations and demonstrates the determination of unions to defend the rights of their members. Türk Deniz-İş Union's decision to strike is a critical turning point for the future working conditions and social rights of workers at TTK.
