The delegation of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions visited Memur-Sen and discussed global labor solidarity, the Palestinian cause and strengthening trade union cooperation.
Ankara - A delegation led by Khaled Abu Marjoub, Vice President of the General Federation of Jordanian Trade Unions (GFJTU), visited Memur-Sen Headquarters on Friday, 25 July 2025. The delegation was hosted by Ali Yalçın, President of the Confederation of Civil Servants of Turkey (Memur-Sen) and Hamza Öksüz, and discussed in detail the challenges facing the regional and global labor movement, the future of trade union solidarity and areas for joint action. The fact that GFJTU is one of the founding members of the International Labor Confederation (ILC) gave the meeting a special significance in terms of international trade union cooperation.
The meeting discussed many topics such as strengthening union solidarity, institutionalizing bilateral cooperation, sharing collective bargaining processes, planning joint training programs and developing joint projects. Global injustices, the pressure of neoliberal policies on trade unions, problems of job security and human rights violations especially in occupied Palestine were among the main agenda items of the meeting. The parties agreed to take a common stance and concrete steps on these issues.
Memur-Sen President Ali Yalçın emphasized in his speech at the meeting that the struggle for labor is not limited to demands for wages and personal rights. Yalçın said, "Labor is also the defense of justice, peace and human dignity in the world. Today, the Palestinian people are facing a genocide and the labor movement must raise the strongest voice against this unjust order. Our solidarity with sister organizations like GFJTU, which have a principled stance, is very valuable for us." These words once again demonstrated the importance Memur-Sen attaches to international solidarity and universal humanitarian values.
GFJTU Vice President Khaled Abu Marjoub stated that they closely follow the famous trade union struggle of Memur-Sen both nationally and internationally. Marjoub said, "Your collective bargaining experiences, your organizational power and your examples of solidarity, especially in times of crisis, are valuable references for us. We want to act together in regional and universal struggles for justice, especially in the Palestinian cause," he said, expressing his desire to benefit from the experience of Memur-Sen and to create common struggle platforms.
Memur-Sen Deputy Chairman and Secretary General of the International Labor Confederation (ILC), Hamza Öksüz, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in his statement about the visit. "The ILC brings together labor organizations from different geographies around an egalitarian, participatory and principled understanding of solidarity. The fact that GFJTU is one of the founding partners of this structure is extremely meaningful for the future of this new trade union model we are building together. We are determined to take more concrete steps in areas such as joint training programs, digitalization, empowerment of young and women workers," he said, emphasizing their vision for the future of the trade union movement and concrete areas of cooperation.
The visit was an important step that will further consolidate the existing relations between Memur-Sen and GFJTU and contribute to the strengthening of the labor movement at the regional and global level.
