United Public Workers' Union criticized the 60-day postponement of the miners' strike decision: "It is not a matter of workers seeking their rights, but the usurpation of these rights is a national security issue."
The United Public-Is Confederation reacted harshly to the postponement of the Turkish Mine Workers' Union's strike decision for 60 days on the grounds of "national security". Commenting on the decision published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the confederation said, "The problem of national security is not the worker's search for his right, but the usurpation of this right."
United Kamu-İş used the following statements in a written statement:
"Workers' right to strike was repeatedly prevented by the state of emergency after July 15th. Today, the miners' right to strike has been unlawfully postponed. The national security problem is not the workers' exercise of their right to strike, but the continuous violation of this right. The deaths of nearly 1200 workers in mines in the last 11 years and the ignoring of these deaths is the real safety problem."
The confederation emphasized that the usurpation of the rights of the working class targets all workers and stated that the organized struggle must be expanded. "The banning of 22 strikes since Erdoğan became President shows that these decisions are planned and systematic. As workers, we are many, we are right and we will win."
United Kamu-İş stated that it stands by the mine workers and will defend the constitutional right to strike until the end.
