United Public-Is Confederation announced the July 2025 hunger and poverty line. The hunger limit increased to 27 thousand 670 TL and the poverty line to 85 thousand 344 TL. TurkStat data caused controversy.
United Public-Is Confederation shared its July 2025 hunger and poverty line survey with the public. According to the report, the monthly expenditure required for a family of four to eat a healthy diet increased to 27,670 TL. With the addition of basic expenses such as housing, transportation, health and education, the poverty line became 85,344 TL . An increase of 1,485 TL was recorded in just one month.
United Public Workers' Union emphasized that TUIK's July 2025 inflation data does not reflect the economic picture of the people. According to TurkStat, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 33.52% year-on-year and 2.06% month-on-month. However, the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) calculated annual inflation at 65.15%, and monthly inflation at 3.75%.
The confederation stated that the real cost of living in people's kitchens does not appear in TURKSTAT data and made the following calls:
TUIK's inflation calculations must be transparent and realistic,
Wages should be updated based on the hunger and poverty line,
Laborers should not pay the price of wrong economic policies.
United Public-Is called on the government and TÜİK for transparency, saying, "The real inflation is in the market, in the kitchen and in the pockets of the people."
