ANKARA - Talip Geylan, General President of Turkish Public-Sen and Turkish Education Union (Türk Eğitim-Sen), appreciated the decision of the Ministry of National Education (MEB) to teach the first lesson of the 2025-2026 academic year with the theme "Protecting the green homeland against forest fires". Geylan stated that this decision is a meaningful step to create awareness and environmental sensitivity in children after weeks of forest fires.

"A meaningful measure, a very important activity"

Making a statement on his social media account, Talip Geylan said, "I see this as a meaningful measure to create awareness and environmental sensitivity in our children in our beautiful country where our lungs have been burning for weeks and I thank you." Geylan stated that this initiative is not only limited to one lesson, but also the sapling planting activities that will continue throughout the year are very important.

In his post tagging Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Geylan emphasized that such awareness-raising activities are vital for the future of the country. Stating that forest fires damage not only trees, but also the ecosystem, living creatures and the future of the country, Geylan said that it is therefore of great importance to equip children with environmental awareness at an early age.

MEB's decision is seen as part of its goal to raise awareness among all segments of society about the problem of forest fires, which have increased in recent years. The support of Talip Geylan, one of the important representatives of the education community, shows that the decision is also welcomed positively among education stakeholders.
