TÜRK-İŞ Executive Board condemned Israel's massacres in Gaza and the attack on the "Global Sumud Flotilla" carrying humanitarian aid. It demanded the release of detained Turkish citizens and accountability before international law.
ANKARA - The Executive Board of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Turkey (TÜRK-İŞ) issued a statement condemning in the strongest terms Israel's ongoing massacres in Gaza and its attack on the "Global Sumud Flotilla" carrying humanitarian aid. TÜRK-İŞ emphasized that this attack disregards international law and is an act of violence against the common conscience of humanity.
The statement said that Israel's attack on the civilian flotilla, which set out to break the blockade on Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid, was "a great shame for humanity, a black stain on history".
TÜRK-İŞ stated that Israel's daily bombings, massacres in Gaza and attacks on the Sumud Flotilla are an act of violence against not only the Palestinian people but also the common conscience of all humanity. He recalled that many citizens of countries whose only purpose is humanitarian aid have been attacked and imprisoned by Israel.
The Confederation demanded the immediate release of the detained Turkish citizens and other flotilla participants. He also stated that Israel should be held accountable before international law for this crime against humanity.
TÜRK-İŞ Executive Board made the following calls to the international community:
Immediate halt: He called on Israel to immediately halt its massacres and attacks on civilians.
Effective Sanctions: He called on the international community to impose effective sanctions against the massacres and lawlessness.
Initiative to the UN: He reminded all relevant institutions, in particular the United Nations (UN), to take urgent initiatives to put an end to these atrocities and to reunite those detained by armed men with their families as soon as possible so that global peace missions can continue.
The statement ended with the message "To remain silent in the face of oppression is to be a partner in that crime" and expressed the belief that the struggle of the Palestinian people will one day end in success and divine justice will prevail.
