Critical Call from Türk Eğitim-Sen to the Ministry of National Education: "Crown the 2024 KPSS Success with Additional Appointment!"

ANKARA - Hundreds of teacher candidates, who could not be appointed due to insufficient quotas despite getting high scores according to the 2024 Public Personnel Selection Exam (KPSS) results, marched to Türk Eğitim-Sen Headquarters to make their voices heard. On September 4, 2025, young teachers who could not achieve their dreams visited the General President Talip Geylan in his office and explained their disappointment and victimization first-hand. Making a statement after the visit, President Geylan called for urgent additional appointments to the Ministry of National Education.

Listening to the sad stories of young teacher candidates, President Talip Geylan emphasized that education is the most important issue of Turkey. "Our colleagues, who have shown great success in the 2024 KPSS, but only 15,000, a very insufficient number of appointments, knocked on our door today. While the light in their eyes and their excitement to serve the children of this country made me happy, their worries about 'We can't get our rights despite so much effort' hurt me deeply," Geylan said, noting that insufficient quotas led to similar grievances in many branches.

Geylan called on the Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin to take concrete steps to eliminate this victimization. "Our young teachers expect our Ministry and Minister Yusuf Tekin to take action on this issue as soon as possible. As Türk Eğitim-Sen, we stand behind this expectation to the end," Geylan said, adding that it is one of the main responsibilities of the state to ensure that young teachers are paid for their labor.

Emphasizing once again that there can be no savings in education, Geylan said, "One of the primary needs of education is to eliminate the teacher shortage. While there are tens of thousands of teacher shortages, it is unacceptable that thousands of brilliant young teachers waiting for an appointment are locked out. This situation negatively affects not only teacher candidates but also millions of students who long for quality education. The additional assignment will both realize the dreams of our teachers and will be a balm to the bleeding wound of our education system."

With this call, Turkish Education and Science Union (Eğitim-Sen) has not only supported teacher candidates in their quest for their rights, but also brought to the attention of the public that a strategic step must be taken for the future of education in Turkey.
