Turkish Education and Science Union warns MoNE about the Assignment Crisis: "Ex-officio appointments have turned into a nightmare!"

ANKARA - Turkish Education Union (Türk Eğitim-Sen) President Talip Geylan stated that the Ministry of National Education (MoNE) has turned the appointments of surplus teachers into a "chaos" and that these appointments have created a great victimization among teachers. Geylan warned the MoNE not to make appointments without a healthy norm update of schools and emphasized that the chaos of ex-officio appointments must be stopped as soon as possible.

General President Talip Geylan made a statement on the issue and said that many teachers who requested a compassionate transfer were assigned to places far from their homes, almost equivalent to inter-provincial distances, and were victimized for the second time. He stated that this situation decreased the motivation of teachers and negatively affected the quality of education services.

"Attempting to Correct a 'Flaw'"

Geylan stated that the MoNE sent a letter to the provinces to resolve this confusion and that some teachers were considered as surplus teachers due to the lack of norm updates. Geylan reminded that the Ministry requested additional forms to be sent until September 10, 2025 to determine the needs in schools with surplus teachers and said that this situation shows that "the measure that should have been taken in the first place was tried to be fulfilled only after thousands of teachers were disturbed."

Geylan said, "The Ministry of National Education should stop the chaos of ex-officio appointments and use savings by reorganizing district groups in a fair and equitable manner and determining school norms in a healthy way. Efficient education cannot be provided by making teachers restless!" and invited the Ministry of National Education to take urgent measures.
