ANKARA - Türk Eğitim-Sen President Talip Geylan made a statement on October 21, 2025, drawing attention to the historical struggle and sacrifices behind the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and said "Cyprus is the Homeland!". Geylan emphasized that the will of the TRNC is a will written with the blessed blood of heroes and martyrs who wrote epics in history.
In his speech, President Geylan listed the painful and honorable milestones that form the basis of the will of the people in Northern Cyprus:
The Epic Valor of the Heroic Mujahideen of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT).
The atrocities committed by the wife and three young children of Major Nihat İlhan, who was brutally murdered in the bathtub during the Bloody Christmas events of December 24, 1963.
The blood of 126 unarmed and unarmed compatriots who were subjected to genocide by the EOKA terrorist organization in the villages of Muratağa, Sandallar and Atlılar in August 1974, the youngest of whom was 16 days old and the oldest of whom was 95 years old.
The Blessed Blood of 1672 Martyrs, 498 of whom were Turkish Soldiers, including the Martyr Pilot Captain Cengiz Topel.
The Epic Struggle of Founding Leaders Colonel Ali Rıza Vuruşkan, Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Denktaş.
Geylan pointed out that the sum of all these sacrifices constituted the TRNC's will for independence and concluded his final message with the following powerful statement:
"In short, the Will of the TRNC is the Will of the martyrs!"
With this statement, Turkish Education and Science Union once again noted that the Cyprus cause is not only a political issue, but also a matter of national existence and honor. The union stated that as educators, they have the responsibility to convey this awareness to young generations and that they will continue to support the just struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people on every platform.
