Tez-Koop-Is Signed a Historic Contract that Exceeded the KÇP at Ordu University

ORDU - Describing the Public Framework Protocol (PFP) of Türk-İş and Hak-İş as "a sales contract that does not meet the demands of the workers", Tez-Koop-İş Union has achieved a historic success for the workers at Ordu University despite this protocol. Tez-Koop-İş Samsun Branch President Tarık Sayın announced that they did not accept the KÇP and that they achieved important gains with a contract in which they were directly active at the table, based on the organized power of the workers.

A Deal Beyond the CCP

Tez-Koop-İş Samsun Branch President Tarık Sayın said in a statement that the KÇP signed by Türk-İş and Hak-İş is against the will of workers and laborers, and expressed their reaction to this agreement as a union. Sayın emphasized that "they will continue to struggle for new rights based on the organized power of the working people."

As a result of this resolute stance, the collective bargaining agreement signed at Ordu University resulted in gains far beyond the KÇP. Sayın emphasized once again that contracts in which workers' own power and will are not directly represented at the table will not produce results in favor of working people.

Success Through Organization and Awareness Raising

Samsun Branch President Tarık Sayın said that when they took over the workplace at Ordu University in 2021, they encountered a group of employees who were unaware of the union, uninformed about their rights and even fearful. He stated that in the previous collective bargaining agreement, workers were able to receive their LTP increases after six months, which led to losses.

In the face of this picture, Tez-Koop-İş, as Tez-Koop-İş, established representative assemblies to raise awareness and organize the workers and gave union awareness trainings in these assemblies, Sayın said that they explained that "the contract that the worker is not at the table does not belong to him". He said that thanks to the determined stance and organized power of the workers, the employer was forced to step back in the negotiations and an agreement was reached in favor of the workers.

Important Gains from the Agreement

With the new collective bargaining agreement, Ordu University workers gained important rights in many areas. Tarık Sayın summarized the content of the contract as follows:

  • Working Time: The weekly working time was set at 40 hours.

  • Base Wage: The base wage was increased to 1750 TL.

  • Spring Differences: A difference payment of 1300 TL will be made before the Ramadan Feast and 2800 TL before the Eid al-Adha Feast, and these differences will be deposited into the accounts within one month.

  • Additional Raises on top of the LTP: On top of these figures, the increases from the LTP will also be added.

Sayın stated that this success is a reflection of Tez-Koop-İş's union understanding of "winning through resistance". This contract proved once again how an organized and conscious stance in the trade union struggle can produce a strong result against unilateral impositions.
