Talat Yavuz, Secretary General of Eğitim-Bir-Sen, attended the 3rd Ordinary Congress of the Arab Education Organization in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Support for Gaza and the problems of education in the Arab world were discussed.
Beirut - The Third Ordinary Congress of the Arab Education Organization was held in the Lebanese capital Beirut. The congress was attended by education unions from 20 different countries in the Arab world, academics and the Palestinian Ambassador in Iraq. From Turkey, Talat Yavuz, Secretary General of Eğitim-Bir-Sen, took part in the congress.
Three main sessions were held during the two-day congress. The sessions covered the current state of education in the Arab region and the world, as well as the developments following the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza.
Participants at the congress called for solidarity by drawing attention to the humanitarian tragedy of the people of Gaza. It was emphasized that education unions are one of the main actors of not only professional but also social transformation.
In his speech, Talat Yavuz, Secretary General of Eğitim-Bir-Sen, emphasized the importance of international cooperation between trade unions and called for a joint struggle against the problems of education in the Arab geography.
On the second day of the congress, the new board of directors of the Arab Education Organization was elected. In the voting, Jamal Hassami was re-elected as the new president and renewed his confidence.
