The United Public Workers' Confederation reacted strongly to the PTT General Director's order to investigate and file plugs against those who participated in the work stoppage. The union characterized this attempt as "action breaking" and declared that they will not give in to threats.
ANKARA - The United Public Workers Confederation has reacted strongly against the investigation initiated by the PTT General Directorate against those who participated in the union action during the work stoppage in reaction to the 8th Term Public Collective Agreement negotiations. The Confederation described this as "action-breaking" and stated that they would not give in to the threatening and blackmailing language of the executives.
"Fuss of Meritless Managers"
In the statement issued by the Central Executive Board of the Confederation, it was reminded that millions of public laborers decided to stop work in response to the "insulting offer" made by the government at the collective bargaining table. Prior to this action, the General Director of PTT sent an official letter to the Human Resources Department. In the said letter, it was stated that the laborers who would participate in the protest were intimidated and instructed to be plugged.
The statement emphasized that this attempt is "action-breaking" and said, "Both this letter and the plotting order are in violation of the Constitution and the relevant laws and regulations." The union stated that it is incapable of "sleuthing" after public laborers who seek their rights, and questioned whether the general manager did this unlawful act to "curry favor with the government."
"Public Laborers will not give in to this blackmail"
United Public Workers' Union (Kamu-İş) stated that public laborers are struggling against the purchasing power eroding day by day and the misery brought by the economic crisis. "We have no other fear but that our children's food will be a little less, that our future will be stolen a little more," he said, emphasizing that they would not hesitate to participate in the action.
The statement criticized the executives for displaying a "more statist than state" attitude and said, "Mr. General Manager, we said 'we'll meet in the squares' even to the ministers of the government you are trying to curry favor with; Your threats and your love of sleuthing are nothing!"
The confederation declared that union action, which is a constitutional right, cannot be prevented in any way and that they will continue their legal and union struggle against any threats and sanctions against their members.
