At the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Trabzon Branch of Koop-İş Union, General President Eyüp Alemdar announced the gains on issues such as the compulsory retirement of subcontracted workers and emphasized solidarity in the union struggle.
TRABZON - The 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Trabzon Branch of Koop-İş Union was held with an intense participation as one of the most important platforms of the trade union struggle. In the general assembly attended by TÜRK-İŞ Vice President and President of Koop-İş Union Eyüp Alemdar, union rights, achievements of laborers and current problems of working life were discussed. The meeting emphasized the power of unity and solidarity and gave strong messages for the future.
A Stronger Union with a Spirit of Unity and Solidarity
Delivering the opening speech of the General Assembly, Trabzon Branch President Fikri Öksüz talked about the successes they achieved in the field of organization during his term of office. Öksüz stated that the union works to protect the rights of not only its members but also all laborers. Öksüz said, "We will continue to be a much stronger union with the spirit of unity, solidarity and struggle," and thanked President Eyüp Alemdar and the entire board of directors for their support in this process.
Significant Gains on "Staffing for Subcontractors, Compulsory Retirement and Working Hours"
General President Eyüp Alemdar, who made the most remarkable speech of the General Assembly, made important statements about the country's agenda and the union struggle. Emphasizing that the union has continuously expanded its organization in both the public and private sectors, Alemdar said, "During the last Public Framework Protocol process, we worked day and night to achieve the best gains for you, our esteemed members, in the difficult negotiations we carried out under the leadership of TÜRK-İŞ. This process was not just a struggle of numbers; it was a struggle of our sweat, our labor and our future."
Alemdar also explained the concrete achievements of the union with examples. In particular, he announced that the compulsory retirement practice, which was one of the biggest problems of the workers who were transferred from subcontractors to staff, was abolished as a result of negotiations with the Ministry. He also noted that the working hours of workers in the Ministry of National Education who had previously worked for less than 10 months were first increased to 10 months and then to 11 months and 29 days. He said that these developments are critical steps to improve the living conditions of working people.
The Struggle Will Continue for Pending Problems
In addition to the gains achieved, Alemdar also mentioned the problems that are still waiting for a solution and said, "We will do our best to solve the problems arising from occupational codes, the problems experienced by our private security officers, and the problems related to the appointment rights of our friends who transferred from subcontractors to the public sector." Alemdar stated that Koop-İş Union is always behind its members and works hard to provide the best living conditions for them.
Strong Solidarity Through Education
Mentioning the importance that Koop-İş Union attaches to union training, Mr. Alemdar said that they have established close relations with branch boards and representatives, reinforced their knowledge and strengthened their solidarity through regular trainings. "Our strength comes from our unity. We will fight side by side and shoulder to shoulder from now on as we have done until today. Because we are a union that fights together and wins together."
After the speeches, the voting process started for the election of the members of the Trabzon Branch's new term management, audit and disciplinary board. It was stated that the elections will be beneficial for working life and union struggle.
