Kemal Türkler commemorated at his grave on the 45th anniversary of his murder
Birleşik Metal-İş Union commemorated Kemal Türkler, one of the symbols of the Turkish working class and a pioneer of the trade union movement, at his grave on the 45th anniversary of his assassination. The commemoration ceremony was held on the anniversary of the assassination, which took place on July 22, 1980, with the participation of his family, union members and friends of labor.
General President Özkan Atar made the following statements during the commemoration:
"Despite all their attacks, those who could not stop DISK and Kemal Türkler, the fascist murderers, tried to take our General President from the working class with a dastardly and treacherous ambush on July 22, 1980. But we shout once again from here: Kemal Türkler is with us! Kemal Türkler continues to live in the strike squares, at the machine heads, at the wheels, in the steel fist of the working class."
The commemoration program also remembered Kemal Türkler's wife Sabahat Türkler, who was one of his fellow workers. United Metal-İş members also commemorated with love and respect at the grave of Sabahat Türkler, known as "Sabahat sister of the working class."
Stating that they will preserve Kemal Türkler's legacy of struggle, union representatives emphasized that "the ideas of our Honorary General President continue to enlighten the path of the working class."
