Prior to the 8th Term Collective Bargaining Agreement, Türk Eğitim-Sen demanded that all academics be guaranteed tenure and that the salaries of education administrators such as deputy provincial directors and branch directors be improved.
Ankara - Shortly before the start of the 8th Term Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations on August 1, Türk Eğitim-Sen drew the attention of the public and authorities with two important demands. On the one hand, the union called for the security of tenure for all academics, and on the other hand, it called for deputy provincial directors, district directors, branch directors, chiefs, inspectors and assistant inspectors in the education organization to be paid a salary appropriate to their authority and responsibilities.
One of the most important demands expressed by the Turkish Education and Science Union was the guarantee of tenure for all academics working at universities. The union emphasized that academics, who today work with different employment models and worry about the future, need security of tenure in order to increase their scientific productivity and motivation. It was stated that precarious employment should be eliminated in order to fully establish the principle of academic freedom and merit. This demand aims to put the scientific mission of universities on a firmer footing and to ensure the working peace of academics.
Another important demand of the union was to make the salaries of the administrative staff of the education organization commensurate with their authority and responsibilities. Türk Eğitim-Sen stated that the personnel in critical positions such as deputy provincial directors, district directors, branch managers, chiefs, inspectors and assistant inspectors should receive a fair salary corresponding to the heavy responsibilities they undertake. It was stated that this would increase motivation and contribute to the more efficient execution of public duties. The union believes that by eliminating the wage injustice in these positions, the education system will become more functional.
These demands, voiced before the Collective Bargaining negotiations that will begin on August 1st, show that Türk Eğitim-Sen does not only focus on salaries and economic rights, but also seeks solutions to the fundamental problems of working life and injustices in the institutional structure. Türk Eğitim-Sen emphasizes that such strategic issues should also be addressed at the Collective Bargaining table in order to fully protect and improve the rights of public laborers. The union has given the message that it will continue its struggle with determination to meet the just demands of public laborers.
