DİSK General-Labor Union Van Branch organized a demonstration against the slaughter of workers in municipalities by the trustee administration. Hundreds of workers marched with the slogan "We Will Get Our Jobs Back" and demanded the reinstatement of all dismissed workers.
The Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) General-Labor Union continues its protests against the massacre of workers carried out by the trustee administration in Van. Hundreds of workers gathered under the leadership of the Van branch of the union and organized a march and press statement with the slogan "We Will Get Our Jobs Back!". The banner "Trustee and Cruelty Will Go! We Will Get Our Jobs Back!" carried in the action revealed the determination of the workers.
Labor Massacres and Union Repression
Hundreds of workers employed by the Van Metropolitan Municipality and its affiliated organizations have allegedly been dismissed without any justification since the trustees took office. Union officials argue that these dismissals lack legal grounds and target union organizing. It is stated that workers who are members of the Genel-İş Union are particularly targeted, and that a significant number of those dismissed are active in union activities.
"Not Political Preferences, but a Struggle for Bread"
In a statement, the union management said that the dismissed workers were punished for fighting for bread, not for any political preference. "These workers are people who have given years of their lives to these institutions, who have worked hard to provide for their families. Their dismissal is an injustice not only to them, but also to their families and the whole city."
Legal and Factual Struggle for Justice
DİSK Genel-İş Union has announced that it will take legal action and continue its de facto struggle to regain the rights of its dismissed members. It was stated that the march and press release was the beginning of this struggle, and it was emphasized that the workers would continue their actions until they returned to their jobs.
This action not only raises the issue of the workers in Van, but also the issue of job security in public institutions across Turkey. The union called on the public and all democratic mass organizations to support the struggle of the workers in Van.
