Önder Kahveci, President of Public Sector Union of Turkey (Kamu-Sen), visited Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz and discussed the 8th Term Collective Bargaining process. During the meeting, Kahveci drew attention to the erosion in the salaries of public employees, wage injustice and the insufficient offer of the Public Employer and called for the expectations to be met.
Turkey Kamu-Sen President Önder Kahveci, together with the union's Deputy President for Collective Bargaining Türkeş Güney, visited Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz in his office. In this critical meeting, the current situation in the 8th Term Collective Bargaining process and the main expectations of the union for public servants were discussed.
Wage Injustice and Loss of Purchasing Power Raised
During the meeting, President Kahveci explained in detail the problems faced by the union and public servants to Vice President Yılmaz. Kahveci especially underlined the wage injustice between those working in different statuses in the public sector and emphasized that this situation undermines working peace. He also stated that the gap between pensions and salaries and the serious erosion in the salaries of public servants in general put economic pressure on public employees.
Kahveci stated that the salary increase offers submitted by the Public Employer side so far are absolutely insufficient neither to ensure wage justice nor to increase the purchasing power of public servants. He stated that these offers are far from meeting the expectations of public employees in the face of increasing inflation and the cost of living.
"We Expect an Approach to Meet Expectations"
General President Önder Kahveci emphasized that at this stage, the public authority should take a constructive and fair approach to eliminate the problems and injustices regarding civil servants' and pensioners' salaries and to meet the justified expectations of public servants. The union also conveyed its demands and solution proposals to Mr. Yılmaz.
At the end of the meeting, President Kahveci thanked Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz for his attention and listening to the problems of public servants. The fact that the visit took place at a critical juncture in the collective bargaining process is of great importance for the progress of the process.
