Harsh Criticism from Büro Memur-Sen to the Public Employer: "The Bill of the Economy cannot be Cut to Civil Servants and Pensioners!"

ŞANLIURFA - In his speech at the 1st Ordinary General Assembly of Şanlıurfa Branch No. 2, Yusuf Yazgan, President of Büro Memur-Sen, criticized the public employer and the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek by discussing the 8th Term Collective Bargaining Process. Yazgan stated that the bill for the increasing inflation and aggravating economic conditions was once again passed on to civil servants and pensioners and said, "Our just demands were ignored and the laborer was ignored."

Speaking at the assembly, which was also attended by Deputy General President Ahmet Kızıl, Memur-Sen Şanlıurfa Provincial Representative İbrahim Coşkun and other branch presidents, Yazgan emphasized that the public employer could not run the collective bargaining table efficiently and did not approach the problems with a solution-oriented approach. Yazgan stated that despite all the warnings of the union, the same erroneous attitude continued as in previous contracts, and that this situation negatively affected the quality of public services.

"Enough is enough, the knife is to the bone!"

Yazgan also touched upon the struggles of the union during the 8th Term Collective Bargaining Process. Yazgan reminded that more than 25 thousand public servants from 81 provinces of Turkey came together in Ankara and shouted their rights from the Anatolian Square, and said that after the rally they marched to the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and called for a new proposal to Minister Mehmet Şimşek. However, he stated that neither the public employer nor the minister responded to this call and that the problems were ignored instead of producing solutions.

"Despite our repeated appeals to the Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek: 'Enough is enough, the knife is to the bone, civil servants and pensioners are overwhelmed. Don't be a barrier between us and fair wages!", Yazgan said, adding that this attitude has deeply upset and demoralized public laborers."

A New Law is Necessary!

Mentioning the inadequacy of the current collective bargaining system in his speech, President Yazgan stated that the Law No. 4688 on Public Servants' Trade Unions is ineffective in producing solutions to current problems. Emphasizing that they are fighting to defend the rights and interests of more than 350 thousand public servants in the offices service branch, Yazgan said, "Public servants do not want to participate in the next collective bargaining negotiations with this current law. A new law is a must," he said, revealing the union's determination on this issue.

While the current branch president Güner Akdoğan was re-elected in the Ordinary General Assembly, President Yazgan wished the branch management success in the new period.
