In its September 1 World Peace Day message, the United Public-Is Confederation stated that wars are an atrocity and that the vision of "Peace at home, peace in the world" should not be deviated from for lasting peace.
ANKARA - The United Public-Is Confederation, in a message published on the occasion of September 1, the International Day of Peace, pointed out that this year's September 1 was celebrated in the shadow of the wars in the Middle East and the risks of conflict around the world. The confederation emphasized that war is an atrocity and humanity must create a milestone for peace.
In its message, United Kamu-İş reminded that the greatest strength of humanity is the ability to live together and build partnerships, and stated that today, imperialists are rubbing their hands for more wars and humanity is in danger of being taken back thousands of years. The statement said war is "atrocity" unless it is a matter of homeland defense.
The Confederation said that war is a bloody market where the grass is trampled while the elephants fight, where the poor die while politicians and big capital plan. It was emphasized that war is a game in which imperialists and arms dealers win and peoples lose.
United Public Labor stated that the path to lasting peace passes through transparency, honor and sincerity. It stated that it is not the right approach to set up bargaining tables hidden from the people or to use wars as a tool for domestic politics. The Confederation said that the words of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, "Peace at home, peace in the world" should be accepted as a manifesto.
Referring to Nazim Hikmet's dream of living "as one and free as a tree; and as brotherly as a forest", United Kamu-İş announced that as a confederation they will always continue to take a stand in favor of peace, not war, and life, not death.
At the end of the message, the United Public Workers Confederation congratulated the Turkish people and all humanity on September 1, World Peace Day. It hoped that this September 1 will be a milestone for the establishment of lasting peace all over the world.
