BES-AR Report Announced: Hunger and Poverty Limits Hit a Record High

Bureau Employees' Union (BES) research center BES-AR published the current hunger and poverty line report including September 2025 data. According to the report, the hunger limit for a civil servant family of four rose to 37,173 TL and the poverty line to 90,279 TL. These figures reveal the extent of the struggle for survival, especially for public laborers and minimum wage earners living in metropolitan areas.

Minimum Wage Far Below the Hunger Line

BES-AR's data reveals that the minimum wage of 22,104 TL set for 2025 is 68.17 percent below the hunger limit of 37,173 TL. This situation indicates that a minimum wage family has difficulty in meeting only basic food needs. It was stated that the cost of living for a single single worker reached 58,335 TL.

Housing Problem Deepens in Metropolitan Cities

The report emphasizes that public workers in metropolitan cities have to spend almost 75-80 percent of their salaries on rent. BES stated that this situation not only squeezes public employees economically, but also turns into a social problem where more than one person has to live in one house to meet their housing needs.

In the light of these data, the Office Workers' Union reiterated their insistence on the demand for a humanly livable wage for all public workers, minimum wage earners and pensioners.
