TURK-IS, Turkey's largest labor confederation, issued a strong condemnation of Israel's massacres in Gaza and the attack on the "Global Sumud Flotilla" carrying humanitarian aid. The union demands the immediate release of Turkish and international citizens detained by Israel and calls for the Israeli government to face international law.
ANKARA – The Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ), Turkey's largest labor organization, has released a scathing statement forcefully condemning Israel's ongoing massacres in Gaza and its recent military intervention against the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” which was transporting humanitarian aid. TÜRK-İŞ’s Executive Board stressed that the attack flagrantly violates international law and constitutes an act of violence against the collective conscience of humanity.
The statement described the attack on the civilian fleet—which set out to break the years-long blockade on Gaza and deliver essential humanitarian supplies—as "a great shame on behalf of humanity, a black stain recorded in history."
TÜRK-İŞ asserted that Israel's daily bombardments, massacres in Gaza, and the assault on the aid flotilla are acts of aggression not just against the Palestinian people, but against the shared moral compass of all mankind. The union highlighted that citizens from numerous countries, whose sole purpose was to provide humanitarian assistance, were attacked and detained by Israeli forces, including Turkish nationals.
The Confederation’s Executive Board issued immediate and unequivocal demands to the global community and Israeli government:
Immediate Release: They called for the immediate release of all detained Turkish citizens and other international participants of the flotilla.
Accountability: TÜRK-İŞ demanded that Israel be held accountable under international law for its crimes against humanity.
Cessation of Attacks: Israel must immediately cease its massacres and all attacks targeting civilians.
Effective Sanctions: The international community must implement effective sanctions against the massacres and lawlessness currently taking place.
The statement specifically called on international bodies, particularly the United Nations (UN), to take urgent initiative to halt the atrocities and ensure the swift return of those detained by armed personnel to their families.
TÜRK-İŞ concluded its statement with a powerful message of solidarity, asserting, "Silence in the face of oppression is complicity in the crime." The union expressed confidence that the dignified struggle of the Palestinian people will eventually succeed, confirming that divine justice will ultimately prevail, as evidenced by the rising tide of global solidarity and mass demonstrations worldwide.
