KAHRAMANMARAŞ - A heartbreaking workplace accident occurred in Kahramanmaraş, one of the cities most affected by the February 6th earthquakes, during the demolition of a damaged building. A collapse during the controlled demolition of a 15-story building in the Üngüt neighborhood of Onikişubat district claimed the life of 30-year-old excavator operator Önder Pınarcı. The young operator was tragically crushed under the debris.
The Moment of Collapse and Rapid Response
The incident happened at the demolition site in the Üngüt neighborhood while operator Önder Pınarcı was meticulously carrying out demolition work. A section of the damaged building unexpectedly collapsed, trapping Pınarcı's excavator beneath the rubble. Upon witnessing the event, other workers immediately raised the alarm, calling for help in a state of panic.
Following the alert, numerous AFAD, fire, police, and health teams were quickly dispatched to the area. Due to the seriousness of the situation, the teams immediately launched a large-scale rescue operation. Racing against time, they worked to locate Pınarcı and the excavator under the debris.
Hopes Crushed Under the Rubble
After an intense and careful effort, the rescue teams managed to reach Önder Pınarcı. However, the initial examination by medical teams confirmed that the young operator had tragically passed away. The devastating news of Pınarcı, a 30-year-old worker in the prime of his life, plunged his family and colleagues into deep mourning.
This tragic event once again highlighted the inherent risks involved in the demolition and debris removal work following the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş. While authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, there have been renewed calls to re-evaluate workplace safety measures and implement necessary precautions to prevent similar accidents. Önder Pınarcı's body was taken to the hospital morgue following the on-site investigation.
