DİSK Press-İş issued a statement following the death of 5 journalists in Palestine due to Israeli attacks, condemning the attacks and calling for the perpetrators to be tried at the International Criminal Court.
ISTANBUL - DİSK Press-İş, a member of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), has issued a strong statement regarding the death of five journalists who lost their lives as a result of Israeli attacks while on duty in Palestine. The union stated that these systematic attacks by the "occupying regime" against journalists are a clear crime under international law and called for the perpetrators to be tried at the International Criminal Court. DİSK Press-İş emphasized that journalism is not a crime and that the truth cannot be silenced.
"Journalists are Witnesses to the Truth, Attacks are an Attempt to Obscure It"
In its statement dated August 11, 2025, DİSK Press-İş noted that journalists have been a target of Israel since the very first day of the war. The statement highlighted that journalists working in Palestine are dedicated to reporting on the crimes committed by the occupying regime, and that these attacks are not only a crime against humanity but also a clear violation of international law.
The union emphasized that journalists are witnesses to the truth in war and conflict zones, stating, "Every attack against them means obscuring the truth and usurping the public's right to information." The statement added that these attacks are not just individual tragedies but also aim to block the global flow of information and manipulate public opinion.
Call for a Trial at the International Criminal Court
In its statement, DİSK Press-İş announced that it condemns the systematic violence against journalists in Palestine in the strongest possible terms. The union argued that those responsible for these heinous crimes must be held accountable before international justice and called for them to be tried at the International Criminal Court. This call places a significant responsibility on the international community to ensure that these events do not go unpunished and that their recurrence is prevented.
DİSK Press-İş concluded its statement with the messages, "We salute our colleagues who are announcing the genocide to the world!" and "Journalism is not a crime, the truth cannot be silenced!" thereby declaring its solidarity with all its colleagues in Palestine and showing its intention to take the struggle for press freedom to international platforms.
