The kilo of lemon has risen to 200 liras in Bayburt: "Now we will wear it at weddings"

The champion of the market in Bayburt was lemon. The price of lemon, which ranged between 80-100 liras per kilo last year, rose to 200 liras this year. The price of a grain varies between 20 and 25 liras depending on its size.

Market vendors reacted to the increasing prices and jokingly said, "From now on, lemons will be worn at weddings. The groom's father now gives lemons to the bride."

They spoiled our lemon tea

Lemon, which is one of the most consumed products along with tea in Bayburt, is straining the pockets of citizens with the hike. Market vendor Talat Çalgan said, "Bayburt people enjoyed tea with lemon, but they squeezed lemon into it. The pleasure has lost its taste. The kilo of lemon is 200 liras, 20-25 liras each. Despite this, the citizen does not leave without buying 2-3 of them," he said.

Market shopkeeper Ömer Gencer said, "Lemon is expensive, but Bayburtian does not drink tea without lemon. Citizens who cannot buy kilo by kilo buy 2-3 and leave. Lemon was the champion of the market," he said.

Even if it's 500 Lira, you can't do without lemons

Bayburt citizens say they will not give up their habits despite the high prices. A citizen said, "You can't go near lemon, but we have to buy it. There is no tea without lemon in Bayburt. Even if it is 200 liras or 500 liras, we will not give up lemon."

Vitamin C Storehouse Turned to Gold

Marketer Salih Saka pointed out the importance of lemon for health and said, "Lemon is a storehouse of vitamin C. Doctors also recommend it. The price has become like gold, but we don't drink tea without lemon," he said.

While lemon prices continue to increase in Bayburt, the common opinion of citizens and shopkeepers has not changed: "Lemon is expensive but indispensable."
