In 2025, Turkey's Population Exceeds 85.8 Million: Maintaining Young and Dynamic Structure

ANKARA - Population statistics for 2024 and 2025, based on the Address Based Population Registration System (ABPRS) of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), revealed the current situation in Turkey's demographic structure. As of July 1, 2025, the population of Turkey is recorded as 85 million 824 thousand 854 people. Of this population, 42 million 923 thousand 584 are men and 42 million 901 thousand 270 are women, indicating an almost equal distribution of the population between the sexes.

Data reveals that Turkey's population remains young and dynamic. The 0-4 age group, which constitutes 5.76% of the total population, forms the base of the population pyramid. The most populous age group is composed of individuals aged 25-29 with a rate of 7.68%. This indicates that the country has a high youth labor force potential and that this dynamism will continue in the future. The fact that the 10-14, 15-19 and 20-24 age groups constitute over 7% of the population confirms the weight of the young population in the total population.

According to the analyzed data, population rates decrease as the age groups get older. While the proportion of the 65-69 age group in the population is 4.00%, the proportion of the population aged 90 and over falls to 0.29%. It is noteworthy that the female population has a higher proportion than the male population in the age group of 60 and above. For example, in the 60-64 age group, the proportion of women is 5.10%, while the proportion of men remains at 4.90%. This confirms the general demographic trend that women have a longer life expectancy.

The data also shows the periodic population growth between the last quarter of 2024 and the first two quarters of 2025. In the 6-month period from December 31, 2024 to July 1, 2025, the population of Turkey increased by approximately 160 thousand people. This steady increase is an important indicator for planning the country's economy and social services.
