"Green Homeland" Burning: Bursa, Karabük and Kahramanmaras Fighting Fires in Bursa, Karabük and Kahramanmaras

Turkey - Turkey continues to be plagued by large-scale forest fires due to the extreme heat in July. While large forest areas in Bursa, Karabük and Kahramanmaraş have been seriously affected by the fires that broke out all over the country, teams are trying to bring the flames under control with intensive aerial and ground interventions. While tens of neighborhoods have been evacuated from fire zones, hundreds of vehicles and thousands of personnel are on duty in the firefighting area.

Bursa: Orhaneli and Harmancık in Flames

The fire, which started in Yakuplar neighborhood of Orhaneli district of Bursa and spread to Harmancık district with the effect of strong winds, seriously threatens the natural cover of "Green Bursa". While the Regional Directorate of Forestry and fire brigades are responding to the fire with their best efforts, the people of the region are also providing great support to the extinguishing efforts with their own means, especially with water tankers.

Dense smoke rising due to the fire covered the skies over Bursa with fog, while many rural neighborhoods of Orhaneli and Harmancık districts were evacuated for precautionary purposes. Orhaneli-Harmancık highway, which was closed to traffic for a short time due to fire safety, was reopened under the control of the teams. As part of the investigation into the fire, 1 person was detained.

Karabük: Fire in Safranbolu continues to rage on its 5th day

The fire, which started on July 23 in the cemetery area of Çavuşlar village in the world heritage city of Karabük, Safranbolu district, continues on its 5th day. So far 18 villages and 50 neighborhoods have been evacuated, while teams are in a race against time to bring the flames completely under control.

Kahramanmaraş: A New Fire Test After the Earthquake

Kahramanmaraş, which is trying to heal the deep wounds of the February 6 earthquakes, is now struggling with a huge forest fire. The fire, which started two days ago in the countryside of Çamlıbel neighborhood of Onikişubat district, spread to a large area and became effective.

More than 600 personnel, 6 helicopters, 17 fire trucks, 17 fire trucks, 38 land vehicles, 10 water tanks and 15 construction equipment are taking part in the fire response. Support teams from neighboring provinces such as Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Kayseri, Gaziantep, Osmaniye and Konya are also working hard to prevent the spread of flames. This shows once again how difficult it is for the region to cope with successive disasters.

The all-out fight against forest fires continues uninterruptedly across the country with the support of the General Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, gendarmerie, municipalities and non-governmental organizations. As part of the investigations launched into the causes of the fires, many suspects were detained. Authorities call on citizens to be more careful and sensitive against fires. It is stated that teams are working on a 24-hour basis to protect the "Green Homeland".
