Intervention to the forest fire that started in Geyve district of Sakarya and spread to Bilecik Osmaneli with the effect of wind continues. AFAD announced that 6 airplanes, 12 helicopters, 195 ground vehicles and 871 personnel intervened in the fire.
871 Person Response to Forest Fire Spreading from Sakarya to Bilecik
Sakarya - The forest fire, which started in Sakarya's Geyve district and spread to Bilecik's Osmaneli district with the effect of wind, is trying to be brought under control. A large-scale aerial and ground intervention is being carried out to fight the fire.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced that a total of 871 personnel are on duty in response to the fire. According to the statement, 6 firefighting aircraft, 12 helicopters and 195 ground vehicles are actively used in the region.
AFAD reported that within the framework of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP), teams of the forestry organization, as well as various public institutions, non-governmental organizations and volunteers are actively involved in the field. Intervention efforts continue day and night.
AFAD also stated that senior executives have been assigned to the region to ensure coordination. AFAD Deputy President Hamza Taşdelen and Head of Department Recep Şalcı were dispatched to Bilecik province, while Dr. Sadi Ergin, General Director of Disaster Response, and Head of Department Levent Uçarlı were dispatched to Sakarya province.
AFAD's statement said, "We wish ease to all the officers who are fighting valiantly to protect our green homeland, and we convey our get well wishes to our citizens affected by the fire."
