Memur-Sen organized a big rally and march in Ankara against the government's inadequate collective bargaining proposal. Tens of thousands of public servants took to the streets with the slogan "For our labor, our bread, our future".
ANKARA - The reaction of public employees against the inadequate offers presented by the government in the 8th Term Public Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations reached its peak with a big rally organized by Memur-Sen, one of the largest civil servant confederations in Turkey, in Ankara. Tens of thousands of civil servants filled the streets of the capital with their demands for justice and fairness.
"We Stopped Life, We March for Our Rights"
Posts on the social media accounts of the Civil Servants' Union (Mamur-Sen) revealed the wide participation of the protest. The action, which was announced with the phrases "For Our Labor, Our Bread, Our Future; we stopped work and stopped life all over Turkey with our power from production!", caused public services to stop in many areas.
Thousands of civil servants flocked to Ankara in the early hours of the morning and marched from the Memur-Sen Headquarters to the Ministry of Labor and Social Security. The march with the slogans "We march for justice, for our rights, for our labor!" was widely echoed on social media with the hashtag "Memur Meydanda".
"The Loud Voice of Tens of Thousands Rises from Ankara"
Memur-Sen emphasized the importance of the action in its posts about the rally, saying, "The loud voice of tens of thousands is rising from this square today. The voice of labor, sweat and justice is spreading from Ankara to all of Turkey." The confederation stated that the will of this rally will be the hope of millions.
After the public employer's first offer of 10+6 percent for 2026 and 4+4 percent for 2027, it was stated that the salaries of public employees melted against inflation and economic losses increased. Memur-Sen aims to put pressure on the government to present a new and fairer offer by initiating a process of mobilization against this inadequate offer. The big rally organized in Ankara was the most concrete indicator of the determination of public employees in their quest for rights.
