KESK Mersin Branches Platform protested Israel's attacks on Gaza and supported the Palestinian people. KESK FMK Member Erdal Karakuş said "The Palestinian people are not alone!" and announced that labor forces will establish a peace front.
MERSIN - Mersin Labor and Democracy Platform, including Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK) Mersin Branches Platform, organized a march and press statement to protest the Israeli attacks on Gaza and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. KESK Central Executive Committee (MYK) Member Erdal Karakuş, Eğitim-Sen General Secretary Zülküf Güneş and Voice Financial Secretary Deniz Topkan also participated in the protest.
Speaking at the press statement, KESK FMK Member Erdal Karakuş emphasized that the persecution of the Palestinian people is a political choice and said, "Our enmity is not with a people, but with the occupying and massacring policies of a state. The Palestinian people are not alone! We will continue to increase the international solidarity of oppressed peoples." Karakuş stated that this struggle is not limited to Palestine, but is the common cause of all oppressed peoples.
A Real Front for Peace
KESK reiterated its condemnation of Israel's Netanyahu government and all its imperialist supporters in a statement released after the demonstration. Stating that they will continue to stand in full solidarity with the Palestinian people, the confederation said, "Together with the forces of labor and democracy, we will build a real peace front."
The statement emphasized that peace can only be possible on the basis of the brotherhood and equality of peoples. Stating that their struggle will continue against the minority that feeds on wars, massacres and exploitation, KESK drew attention to the social base of the struggle by saying, "We are the majority: laborers, women, youth, those who struggle for peace and democracy."
The press statement ended with the slogans "Long live the brotherhood of peoples! Long live the struggle for labor, peace and freedom!" slogans.
