KESK is with the People in Samandağ: "We are not giving up our land!" Support for the Rally

HATAY/SAMANDAĞ - The Confederation of Public Employees' Trade Unions (KESK) supported the people's struggle to protect nature and agricultural lands in the Kurtderesi neighborhood of Hatay's Samandağ district. KESK Co-Chair Ayfer Koçak and Work Section FMK Members participated in the rally organized by the "We Defend Our Land Initiative" and attended by hundreds of people, showing a strong solidarity uniting labor and environmental struggle.

Citrus and Olive Groves in Danger: People Resist

The rally symbolizes the determined stance of the people of Hatay against the pressure on their land and projects that threaten the ecological balance of the region. The protesters gathered under the slogan "We protect our land, our nature, our living spaces! We raise our voice against the destruction of our citrus trees and olive groves!".

This struggle, based on the protection of the environment and habitats, also aims to secure the future of the citrus and olive growing sector, which is the foundation of the regional economy. The people took a clear stance against the destruction of agricultural lands and natural life and allocation to different projects by saying "We are not giving our land".

KESK Full Support for the Struggle

KESK Co-Chair Ayfer Koçak, in her speech at the rally, emphasized that the struggle of environment and life defenders cannot be separated from the struggle for the rights of public laborers. Koçak stated that the right to clean air, clean water and healthy food are basic human rights and that KESK will stand by the just and honorable struggle of the people of Hatay until the end.

The KESK delegation participated in the demonstration, chanting slogans with local people and giving solidarity messages, calling for a joint struggle against the negative effects of centralized policies on local life.
