After 8 days of protest, Buca Municipality workers agreed with the municipality that their salaries and receivables will be paid within 3 months. July salary will be paid immediately and August salary will be paid on October 2.
İZMİR - Workers at Buca Municipality, who have been protesting for eight days over unpaid salaries, collective bargaining differences and food cards, have finally won a victory. After hours of negotiations, an agreement was reached on the payment of July and August salaries, which the workers declared as "red lines", and the payment of 8 days' wages that were withheld during the previous work stoppage.
According to the protocol signed between DİSK/Genel-İş Izmir Branch No. 6 President Değer Yıldız and Buca Mayor Görkem Duman:
July salary will start to be deposited into workers' accounts tonight and tomorrow and will be completed during the day.
August salary will be paid in full on October 2.
The municipality's all retroactive receivables (collective agreement differences, food cards, etc.) will be paid in full within three months at the latest.
The municipal administration has pledged to make a special effort to avoid any delays in salary payments from the new year (2026).
Most importantly, the protocol guarantees that no administrative or legal sanctions will be imposed on workers who participate in the protest.
Addressing the workers gathered in front of Buca Municipality after the meeting, DİSK/Genel-İş Izmir Branch No. 6 President Değer Yıldız thanked the workers for their eight-day struggle. Yıldız said, "Good luck to all of us. We had demanded the August salary, and on October 2 you will receive your August salary. Within three months at the latest, the receivables in the municipality will be paid in full and the salary problem will end. With the new year, we will start the process in which salaries are paid regularly and in full."
Buca Mayor Görkem Duman said, "We have been having problems with salaries for months due to the economic difficulties we have been experiencing. We signed a protocol with the union by planning income and expenses in a balanced way. We will look ahead within the framework of this protocol. We will work more sensitively with our team in order not to experience such problems again." Duman added that from now on they will work for the continuation of services in Buca without interruption and for the solution of the garbage problem.
This achievement was considered a concrete result of the organized struggle of municipal workers.
