United Kamu-İş supported Tüm Yerel-Sen's march from Eskişehir to Ankara with the demands of firefighters' professional class, martyrdom right and actual service increase. General President Orhan Yıldırım blamed the President for not solving the economic problems.
ANKARA - The United Public-Is Confederation supported the march started by Tüm Yerel-Sen Union from Eskişehir to carry firefighters' struggle for their rights to Ankara. On October 1, 2025, during the march, which ended with a press statement at Sakarya Square, Confederation President Orhan Yıldırım criticized the government's failure to solve the economic problems of the people, especially public employees and pensioners, with harsh words.
The march, organized by the union Tüm Yerel-Sen, affiliated to the United Public Workers Union, brought four main demands of firefighters to the agenda:
Recognition of firefighting as a professional class.
Recognition of the right to martyrdom and veteran status.
Recognition of actual service increase (attrition share).
Increase in overtime wages.
Making a speech in Sakarya Square, United Public Workers Union President Orhan Yıldırım started his speech by commemorating all firefighters who lost their lives with gratitude. Yıldırım blamed the political power for not solving the problems of public employees for 23 years and made striking statements:
Criticism of Deceiving the People: Stating that the government promises "let's solve all your problems, raise your wages" before each election but fails to keep them, he said "We are tired of hearing these promises again before each election, but the government is not tired of deceiving the people".
Responsibility Emphasis: Emphasizing that the President is responsible for everything that happens in the country, good or bad, Yıldırım said, "No one can absolve himself of this responsibility".
Reaction to the Claim of "No Money": He criticized the fact that public employees, workers, farmers and pensioners are not given the wages they deserve while the national income is said to have increased. "If he does not give, know that it is not because there is no money. When it comes to the interest payers, the money is paid in full," he said, citing as examples the payments made for unpassed highways, unlanded airplanes and unplanned airports.
Responsible for Economic Victimization: Yıldırım concluded his speech with this harsh statement: "If the minimum wage cannot pay his rent, the President is responsible."
This march and press statement brought the demands of firefighters for their professional rights to the public agenda at a time of deepening economic crisis, and clearly revealed the focus of the union opposition's criticism of the government.
